Travel Emergency Kit

travel emergency kit for families

As you know, we travel ALL THE TIME. As as the mama of a family who has logged hundreds of hours in the car with little kids, I’ve learned a few things along the way. We always pack plenty of fun activities to keep the kids entertained while we’re traveling. We always bring along our adventure box to help create memorable experiences for our family in between the big attractions.

And we ALWAYS bring our travel emergency kit. Here’s what’s inside:

Sunscreen – I’m really conscious about always having sunscreen when we’re out and about and especially when we’re traveling. But you never know when the bottle will run out or mysteriously disappear. So I keep a secret backup stash for just those times.

First Aid Kit – It’s got everything you’d expect in a travel sized first aid kit… bandaids, neosporin, tylenol, alchol wipes. This has come in handy more than once!

Cottonelle Flushable Cleansing Cloths On-The-Go Soft packs – These wipes have saved our bottoms (pun totally intended) so many times!! I can’t tell you how many times we’ve used public restrooms at rest stops that happened to magically be out of toilet paper. And I don’t know if your kids are like this too… but my kids always say they have to use the restroom RIGHT NOW when we’re in the middle of nowhere with no bathroom in sight. Lucky for us, when we’ve had to use mother nature as a restroom, we’ve had these wipes on hand 🙂 And P.S. these work ESPECIALLY well after a day at the beach… wipes get sand out of unwanted places way better than plain toilet paper!!

I’d love to know what’s in YOUR emergency travel kit! Please share with me in the comments so I can add a few more things to my own kit.

Thanks for sharing I will always keep a travel first aid kit in my car. I believe that the first aid kits don’t completely cure someone from their injury or give them complete treatment, but they can help save a life, by preventing infection or prevent worsening the injury or condition. So I suggest every one to keep a first aid kit.

i have that same little first aid kit! i also pack cortisone cream for bug bites, childrens chewable claritin or zyrtec; childrens chewable ibuprofen, moleskin, a blister prevention stick, saline eye drops (and yes, we used the drops when we were hiking and my 10 yo managed to let a branch whack her in the eye!) and the wipes, definitely. and hand sanitizer.

Love this.  Have you heard the baby powder trick for getting sand off?  Wait until the sand is dry (doesn't take long in the hot sun!), then put baby powder on your skin and it brushes right off.  Magic.  A travel-size baby powder might be a great addition to your kit!

Great list!! My kids didn't learn about hand sanitizer until they went to school... I can't stand the way it makes your hands smell! Ha ha :) but everything else would definitely come in handy... I think I'm gonna need a bigger box!

This is brilliant Jenika! I have never heard of this before, but will definitely add it to my kit :)
