Our What Ifs…

Today was supposed to be about our marshmallow shooters…but that will come soon…

A blog post by my new friend, Taylor, where she shared her What Ifs, helped me realize we need to get our What Ifs out into the world…they’ll never happen unless we ask, right?

This has everything to do with our WHY, and where we want to take the Happy Family Movement. Jenny and I have never been one to talk about doing things, we DO things. We also don’t want to put off all the awesomeness life has to offer for a future date…WHAT IF, we shared these big goals with the world, right now…

What if our readers held us accountable?
What if our readers supported us and helped us achieve our dreams?
What if we, ALL OF US, decided to make the world a better place, and had a ridiculous amount of fun doing it?

Before I get to our What Ifs, I want to share with you a lesson my buddy, Richie Norton, shared with us. It has to do with regret. It’s simple…when thinking about doing stuff, see if it passes this test…

Will I regret it when I’m 80?

If you’re 80, and looking back on your life, will you regret NOT doing something? I don’t want any regrets…so here, right now, I’m sharing our biggest What Ifs…

#1 – What if Jenny wrote a book? One that changed the way we all look at parenting.

#2 – What if we bought some land in the woods somewhere, or on a beach, and built a house from scratch? But this wouldn’t be ANY house, this would be a bed & breakfast FUN house. A place where we have families from all over the world visit us, and have a TON of fun together. I’m talking slides by the stairs, a fire pole into a ball pit, secret passageways everywhere (I could literally go on and on and on). You get the idea, a place that would be blow your freakin’ mind awesome! Would you come and stay with us?

#3 – What if we organized a family festival/retreat/vacation/learning experience? A place where you would come, and bring your entire family. We’d have organized excursions, lots of down time for you to just chill with other parents, songs around campfires. We’d have some kid free time, where the adults would all dream about living more intentional lives with their families, and actually come up with plans to make that happen. We’d learn each others’ stories. We’d share our values, traditions and we’d go out and adventure together. Don’t worry, we’d have awesome child care on hand so the kids aren’t completely unsupervised, and they’d be doing awesome stuff with other kids (we aren’t THAT crazy!). Would you come dream with us?

#4 – What if the Happy Family Movement became a household name? All over the world! This is bigger than Jenny + I. What if the Happy Family Movement became just that…a worldwide movement where we all collectively decided to stop worrying so much and just flat out LOVED our kids, just LOVED them with our whole hearts, and stopped caring so much about the right way to do this or do that, or stressed about school, or worried about what our next door neighbors are doing, or worried about that stupid PTA meeting. What if we just did the best job we could do with our kids…do what feels right to US…and raised our kids in an environment where they were free to be themselves, 100% authentically themselves, and we were OK with however they turned out, because, our kids were raised in a house that was full of LOVE. Those kids will change the world. I believe that with all my heart. That is the Happy Family Movement to me. It’s more than just being happy. It’s about JOY and WONDER and COMPASSION for our kids and each other. It’s about LOVE. It’s about putting more LOVE into the world, because LOVE is the most infinite resource we have available! It never runs out, ever. And I want to live in a world full of LOVE, completely free to be our most authentic selves, living authentic lives…let’s make this happen. It starts with us. All of us…

I’ve recently learned, you can never achieve your dreams if you don’t ever ask the question. What if?

If you’re curious about this whole What If thing, we shared our thoughts about the What If conference last week 🙂

I'm totally speechless except for two things- 1. I kept thinking "yes... Yes... YES!!" after each thing you listed. And 2. You make me want to have babies right now so we can get started with all of this! You guys should totally teach parenting classes for expecting couples- get them started thinking about all this early. All I know is that you guys inspire us everyday and we're so lucky to have you in our lives!
