Under the Sea Lunch

I recently (as in, last week!) found a blog, This Lunch Rox. And let me tell you, this blog rox! I immediately started reading all of Jamie’s posts. I love love love all the themed lunches she does for her boys! The first post I read was Passion and as soon as I saw the cactus shaped sandwich and read that she bought the cookie cutter in a gift shop on their family vacation, I was inspired! That day, we visited the Tennessee Aquarium. As luck would have it,  they sold shark cookie cutters. We picked one up and I couldn’t wait to get home and use it!

Today I made the girls an Under the Sea lunch, totally and completely inspired by Jamie from This Lunch Rox. My creation is not quite as snazzy as Jamie’s are, but she’s clearly an expert at this, and well, I’m a beginner! So, I made the girls shark peanut butter sandwiches, and gave them goldfish crackers and pretzels. The vegetables are arranged into an octopus. I know that isn’t the prettiest octopus ever, but Ava totally thought it looked like an octopus AND she ate all her veggies. So, I win anyway. P.S. It’s a happy octopus… just in case you were wondering! If you want to see Jamie’s version of a shark lunch (it’s pretty awesome!), you can check out her post here.

I think this one on one idea is brilliant! Too often I feel that children, well teens/young adults, look at their parents as only parents and not as friends, confidants, mentors, life coaches, cheer leaders etc etc Perhaps by fostering this intimate one on one communication from the start you can forge a stronger, deeper bond.

I don't have kids, but I want fun lunches like that for myself! I wonder what my day-job co-workers would think if I showed up with cookie-cutter sandwiches, or better yet, I wonder what the Mr's co-workers would think... Hmmm...
